Booking change or roll-over: what happens to the registration?

Moving a container to another voyage may require updates to its port formalities. Do not assume that a carrier booking change automatically updates every document and system. Notify the party handling the port registration.

First establish what changed

A roll-over moves a shipment to a later voyage. It may also involve a different booking, vessel, date, terminal or port. The actions required depend on the changed details, document type and registration status. A new sailing date alone does not describe the full situation.

Send the old and new details together

Continue in the same message thread where possible, adding the existing registration reference and current confirmation from the forwarder or carrier.

  • Previous and new booking numbers, plus the container number.
  • Port, terminal, vessel and voyage before and after the change.
  • The MRN and customs document relating to the shipment.
  • Any messages received and whether the container is already at the terminal.

Amendment, cancellation or new registration?

CloseMRN reviews available statuses and determines how the change can be handled. Depending on the system and stage, an amendment, cancellation or new port registration may be required. If customs data also changes, action must be coordinated with the party responsible for the declaration. We confirm the scope and any charges before proceeding.

What subsequent monitoring covers

After the agreed change, we check the available outcome and flag discrepancies requiring further information. Monitoring covers the agreed scope and available statuses; it does not guarantee loading or exit confirmation. For regular cooperation, agree in advance who reports changes and how their receipt is confirmed.

Before you send a request

Does a booking change always require a new number?

Not always. It depends on the port, system, changed details and processing stage. We use the existing reference and new information to establish whether an amendment is sufficient or a new registration is needed.

Is it enough to inform the carrier?

You should not assume so. The party responsible for port registration also needs the information so it can check the effect on documents and available statuses.
