IE599, IE518, Z-Nummer and port system statuses — what they mean in practice and what the next step is when you see them.

AES/ECS messages (export)

IE599 / CC599CConfirmation of Exitdraft — under review

Electronic confirmation that the goods physically left the EU customs territory. Since 31 Oct 2024 the AES message is designated CC599C (formerly IE599) — for zero-rate VAT both have the same evidential value. This is the document every exporter waits for.

IE518 / CC518CExit Resultsdraft — under review

The message by which the office of exit (e.g. a seaport) reports the result of exit supervision to the office of export — including the actual exit. Based on it, the office of export generates the exit confirmation for the declarant.

ZAPP/EMP statuses (Hamburg)

Z-Nummer (ZAPP)Z-Nummer — export registration number in ZAPPdraft — under review

The number assigned after registering an export in Hamburg's ZAPP/EMP port system. Linking the Z-Nummer with the MRN and the container lets the port system report the exit to customs — without it the MRN will not close despite the physical departure.
